The Other Virginia

The VIRGINIA ALLIANCE FOR WORKER JUSTICE is a group of religious, labor and community organizations that came together in 2003 to welcome the Immigrant Worker Freedom Riders in Richmond. This gathering demonstrated a clear need to invite like-minded organizations to continue to work together to protect and enhance the rights of working people.

MISSION
The Virginia Alliance for Worker Justice is a partnership of religious, labor, community and civil rights organizations committed to promoting the dignity and rights of all workers, with a focus on native-born and immigrant workers in Virginia and in solidarity with workers nationally and internationally.

VISION
The Virginia Alliance for Worker Justice believes that support for workers' rights strengthens families and communities. Every worker has a right to fair employment, a livable wage, a safe workplace, affordable health care, a secure retirement and other social benefits that uphold human dignity. All workers also have the right to organize and bargain collectively to protect these rights. The Alliance understands that promoting racial and gender equality is fundamental to achieving justice for all workers. The Alliance supports the local economy and fair trade, not just free trade, to promote the dignity of workers and to protect the environment.
